Since 1974, Valley Program for Aging Services has provided services that support independence in the home and community for individuals 60 years and older living in the Shenandoah Valley.
MISSION: Play a key leadership role in advocating for, establishing, and sustaining communities beneficial to older persons and adults with disabilities and their families. Actively participate in providing services needed by these individuals, including coordinated and accessible healthcare; maximum independent living and affordable housing options; support to family caregivers; transportation; and opportunities for vibrant engagement in life, active citizenship, and enhanced quality of life.

The following eligibility-based programs are provided to adults 60 years and older in the Rockbridge community: Meals on Wheels, Emergency Services, Personal Care Services, Homemaker Services, Case Management, Legal Assistance, Congregate Meals, Socialization & Recreation, Transportation, Chronic Disease Self-Management Education, Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (Medicare Counseling), Senior Outreach to Services, and Local Long-Term Care Ombudsman.
In 2014, we served: 445 individuals, saving them over $122,000 by assisting with Part D Medicare Prescription Drug Planning; 135 individuals, providing 20,898 hot home delivered meals; 38 individuals, providing 4,079 hours of in-home personal care services; 6 individuals, providing 427 hours of homemaker services; 27 individuals, providing 1,226 hot meals at Maury River Senior Center (MRSC); 102 individuals, providing 16,410 hours of socialization and recreation at MRSC; 7 individuals, providing 719 rides on our van to get to and from MRSC.

Packaging and delivery of Meals on Wheels; Transportation volunteers; Activities ie: weekly crafts with members, weekly exercise, yoga, current events with members, gardening; “brick and mortar” maintenance of building ie: painting interior/exterior, reconfiguring/remodel of space for greater efficiency, basement and shed clean-out.
