2006. The mission of The Campus Kitchens Project is to use service as a way to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities (additional wording on go.wlu.edu/ckwl if desired).
Congregate meal service to agency partners, individual meal delivery to clients referred by agency partners, Backpack Program to pre-K and elementary-aged students and the Mobile Food Pantry, which currently serves on a monthly basis in Goshen and Buena Vista.
Backpack Program for 2015-2016 school year is serving 704 area children; 238 individuals served through September’s Mobile Food Pantry program; 41,716 meals served in the 2014-2015 academic year.
10th Birthday- fall 2016 250,000th meal served- anticipated March/April 2016.
CKWL partners with: Habitat (referrals), RAISE(referrals), Davita Dialysis Center (referrals), Manor at Natural Bridge, Family Preservation Services, Lexington Office on Youth, Rockbridge Area Occupational Center, Magnolia Center, Rockbridge County Schools, Buena Vista City Schools, Lexington City Schools, Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center, Yellow Brick Road, Concerned Citizens of Glasgow, Saturday’s Child, Community Table, Goshen Public Library, local churches.

Students have the opportunity to make a real impact on a pressing need (hunger) in the local community, while also developing leadership skills and relaying their community based knowledge into the classroom.
